Welcome to School of Basic Midwifery, Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital, Ogidi. The School started its formal training of midwives in the year 1927 as a Post Basic School until the year 2018 when it was accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to run as a Basic Midwifery School.
The school and the hospital is known for its’ legendary feat as the institution to train the first midwife in Nigeria. The School train students that will become qualified midwives according to the standard stipulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) which is the regulatory body for all nursing and midwifery schools in Nigeria.
The school of basic midwifery is blessed with outstanding lecturers and tutor who are vast and experienced in their various fields with qualifications ranging from RNs and RMs, HNDs, B.Sc, M.Sc and PhDs in their various areas of specialties as required by the NMCN.
School of Basic Midwifery is located in Ikenga Ogidi inside Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.
The training in Basic Midwifery offers academic opportunities in both nursing and midwifery related fields as one is equipped to practice, or further academically by going into General Nursing (RN) or obtain B.Sc from any university of your choice through direct entry.
The comfort and satisfaction of the students is the sole priority of the school management. To that effect, the school is fully equipped with all basic needs and necessities, which is to make the students as comfortable as possible and providing conducive environment for learning, such as classrooms, comfortable accommodations, water and steady light supply and security. Other facilities available are good library, well equipped demonstration rooms, state of the art maternal complex for experiences and trainings and grooming.
The program of basic midwifery last for three (3) years. The maiden set of the School of Basic Midwifery, Iyienu are currently in 2nd year of their training and at the end of the program after writing the professional examinations by NMCN, would be awarded with certificate as Registered Midwives (RM) and licensed to practice.
Gaining admission into the school of Basic Midwifery, Iyienu would require you to have five (5) O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two (2) sittings from WAEC, NECO and NABTEB examination bodies.
Sales of forms start August/September every year while entrance examinations are taken in December/January and program begins in March. The sales of forms and registration are done online and in school to meet up to demand and reach out to as many as are interested.
